Write from Experience

I decided to create Roses as Humans because I wanted a place where stories could come to life and help us grow.  We are all broken people and we all have some sort of past.  Whether that be broken relationships or abusive parents.  Maybe we struggle with mental health like anxiety or depression. Whatever you have in your past you have two options. Option one is you let your past define you and hold you in chains. You can feel bad for yourself and live in that feeling of defeat.  However, that doesn’t need to be your outcome. You could choose option two and let your past teach you important lessons and allow yourself to move on.  You can then take those lessons to help encourage others who may be struggling with the same things you have. I want this platform to turn into a place you can be inspired to do just that.‍

Everyone needs some sort of outlet because if you let things linger in your mind for too long, they will consume you and eventually break you.  I firmly believe that writing can be an immensely helpful outlet for people to understand their thoughts and feelings. I know writing lyrics to songs has helped me tremendously through the years as I have struggled with things in my life. Recently I have dived even more into writing poetry and short stories.  Changing up your writing style can add new creative freedom to your thoughts. I want to make this page be a place that will inspire you and encourage you to use these tools to become a light to the world. Share your experience and we can grow together.  If you are ready feel free to share your story over on our Instagram page @rosesashumans! You may feel like your story won’t make an impact but someone else reading this post may be able to relate to your story and it would be a great encouragement to them.

Today’s exercise or tip for writing is this: “write from your experiences”.  If you don’t know where to start find a time in your life you felt something.  Then try to explain what you felt.  Write down words that express your feelings.  Take time to just describe what you felt.  This exercise may start out slow but don’t let that discourage you.  Take your time and slowly begin to write down your thoughts.  I have found that I don’t always fully understand why I am upset or agitated.  But as I begin to put my thoughts into writing things become more clear. After you have written down all of your thoughts and feelings see if you can begin to turn them into sentences.  Tell your story through these thoughts.  It’s incredible how a few descriptive words can gradually transform into a thought and eventually evolve into a story.    It’s your story, not just any story. Don’t let that intimidate you; instead, let it excite you. You have a unique story, unlike anyone else’s. While it may share similarities with others, it is still unique and special.‍

I hope you will take this week to think about your story.  How has it impacted your life? Have you been allowing your past to hold you back or to let you blossom fully.  You are a beautiful rose and your life matters.  If you need an outlet to express yourself try writing.  There are so many opportunities and ways to write.  You could write poems, or a song, maybe even a short story.
